Leader Message – Dr. Nizar

Dr. Mohammad Nizar Mat Nor
Chairman, World Philosophical Forum Malaysia Organization

It is with profound gratitude that I welcome all distinguished leaders, scholars, and participants to the celebration of World Philosophy Day 2025. This occasion is not only a commemoration of philosophy, but an affirmation of our shared responsibility to navigate an increasingly complex world with wisdom, courage, and relevance.

This year’s theme, “Philosophy & Leadership: Navigating a Complex World with Ethical Governance”, invites us to reflect on the timeless bond between knowledge and authority, between values and vision. In an age where societies are confronted with rapid technological change, climate uncertainty, and moral fragmentation, leadership cannot survive on power alone. It must be guided by philosophy — the search for meaning, coherence, and direction that ensures governance remains relevant to the needs of humanity.

Here in Malaysia, our path has been shaped by the wisdom of the late Dato’ Philosopher D’Outreach Prof. Dr. Halo-N Badii’uzzaman, Founder of WPF Malaysia. His vision established a firm foundation for this movement by reminding us that philosophy is not abstract speculation, but the very source of transformation. He believed that philosophy shapes the charisma of leaders, that it ignites new ideas, and that it equips humanity to face the future with dignity. His legacy continues to inspire WPF across the world.

The Qur’an, a universal book of wisdom, reinforces this mission. In Surah Taha (20:114), we are taught three enduring principles: to accept truth sincerely, to deliberate before acting, and to seek knowledge continuously. These values transcend religion and culture; they are principles for every leader who aspires to relevance in a rapidly changing world.

To accept truth is to acknowledge reality without fear or prejudice. To deliberate before acting is to resist haste and act with discernment. To seek knowledge continuously is to embrace lifelong learning and adapt with humility. These are the hallmarks of leaders who remain relevant to their people and their time.

This resonates with the divine mandate in Surah Al-Hadid (57:25): li-yaqūman-nāsu bil-qisṭi. Too often translated narrowly as “justice,” its deeper meaning is relevance. It signifies a living alignment — that human beings must stand with what is timely, balanced, and meaningful in every aspect of life. Relevance is broader than justice; it embraces not only fairness in law, but also renewal in knowledge, integrity in governance, and compassion in human relations. It is the principle that allows civilisation to endure, because it keeps truth alive and applicable in every generation.

As we mark World Philosophy Day 2025, let us reaffirm that leadership without philosophy becomes blind, and philosophy without relevance becomes barren. Together, they form the compass by which humanity may navigate complexity with wisdom, humility, and hope.

May this gathering inspire us to embrace truth, reflect with care, and seek knowledge without end — so that our leadership remains ever relevant, and our governance becomes a blessing for all.
