The Three Main Linchpins of UNESCO’s Strategy of Philosophy Pursuant to underlining the importance of Philosophy by and large at its 1946, 1950, 1953, 1961, 1978 and 1995 sessions, UNESCO promulgated a draught statement on the three Main Linchpins of its Strategy of Philosophy in 2006, namely:

  1. Addressing Humanity’s pressing problems from a philosophical standpoint by prompting Philosophy academics to peruse global issues for enriching academic research and teaching accordingly and help create philosophical debate platforms including specialists, the grass roots and social issues resolving authorities.
  2. Disseminating Philosophical teaching globally with a view to fostering critical thinking, in this way contributing to shaping mature personalities much less susceptible to prejudice and respectful of others’ freedom and cultural diversity; this objective can be achieved by means of incorporating simplified Philosophy lessons in Primary and Secondary syllabuses and drawing upon suggestions-based formulas of current Philosophy teaching improvement exchanged and adopted by UNESCO’s National Commissions globally.
  3. Promoting Philosophical thought and research internationally by means of popularizing Philosophical concepts, integrating the mainstream Schools of Philosophical knowledge and nurturing independent critical thinking, thereby sowing the seeds of societies where social and cultural differences will be bridged over through free exchange of views and Peaceful co-operation will be viewed as the safest prerequisite for overall development , especially in countries where Philosophy does not hitherto entertain its rightful status. UNESCO’s Strategy of Philosophy holds that Philosophical education is an inalienable right of every individual and, much as it should consider each and every standpoint, it must never adopt ideologies that disrespect freedom of choice and encroach upon human dignity.
