Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Sulaiman M. Yassin
Former Vice Chancellor - Universiti Malaysia Terengganu
On behalf of the organizing committee, I am pleased to welcome all
distinguished guests, eminent scholars, and participants from around the world to the celebration of World Philosophy Day, 20 November 2025, at the Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Your presence honours this occasion and affirms the universal relevance of philosophy in addressing the challenges and opportunities of our shared humanity.
World Philosophy Day, as recognized by UNESCO, provides a vital platform for reflection and dialogue. It reminds us that philosophy is not only an academic discipline, but also a living tradition that shapes ethical reasoning, critical inquiry, and intercultural understanding. Through philosophy, we cultivate the wisdom to question deeply, to converse across differences, and to imagine more just and harmonious futures.
This gathering also affords us the opportunity to pay tribute to the late Professor Dato’ Dr. Halo-N (Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Laksamana), a founding member and highly respected philosopher whose scholarly leadership has left an enduring legacy. His work advanced philosophical thought in Malaysia and beyond, combining intellectual rigour with a vision for a more humane and inclusive society. His dedication to nurturing dialogue, mentoring scholars, and championing the value of wisdom continues to inspire us. We are indebted to his contributions and honour his memory as we carry forward the ideals he upheld.
To our international participants, your engagement enriches this celebration and strengthens the bonds of the global philosophical community. To our Malaysian colleagues, your commitment ensures that philosophy remains a guiding light in our nation’s intellectual and moral life. May this occasion foster meaningful exchange, fresh perspectives, and enduring collaboration. I welcome you warmly and invite you to join in advancing the spirit of philosophy for the common good.
